A question was asked, if you pay for a region record and if your fast enough, could you
pay the extra $100 and make it a national record?
The answer from the commissioner is:
No, you cannot pay the difference if you pay for a region record and then set a National Record.
You either have to pay for a National Record up front, or set a regional record,
then pay again for another set of runs to try to break the National record. A case in point a couple of
years ago was Dustin Echols in 2.5 Mod inboard: His region record is faster than his national simply
because he wasn’t confident of his boat/skill so he only opted for regional record attempt at first.
He was so fast that he blew away the national record and he and the boat owner approached CORA
wanting to pay the difference, but CORA refused the funds. He was forced to pay another entry for
a crack at the National record and unfortunately for him that run wasn’t as fast. He still set a new
record, but his region record is faster.
Hope that clarifies for you,
