    Let's Go Racing!

     Next Region Race - It's a Go!

    Al Benson Medical Fund

Al Benson had a serious accident at Rockaway. He was driving hard into turn two with Jon Nilsen behind

him in the lane inside of him.  Al’s hydro caught a roller and spun in front of Jon, and Jon had no where to go.

The good news is that it appears the cockpit side took the brunt of the impact and absorbed a lot of the crashenergy. The bad news was Al still got hammered badly.  Al was taken to the local hospital, where he was stabilized, then because of the injury type he was sedated and flown to Emanuel hospital in Portland, where surgeons repaired multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung.  Denise Johnson worked out getting Alan’s

insurance coverage extended six months through his former employer, and it appears that effort will be successful. However, Alan (currently unemployed) will still be on the hook for the premiums. To handle those,

Denise has set up a medical fund account at Bank of America in Al’s name.

If you wish to make a cash donation now, you can go to a Bank of America branch and make a deposit to

the Al Benson Medical Fund (that should be what any check is made out to). You will need to specify that it is an Oregon account; the account number is 48500 1614874If you would rather mail a check, make it out to the Al Benson Medical Fund, and note the account number in the memo field (485001614874).

You can then mail the check to this address

    (Attn. Denise Johnson):

    7314 SE 19th Ave.

    Portland OR 97202-6254

There is an immediate need for funds to start up his insurance, and then there will be another premium payment

coming up at the end of the month for October.  There is a spaghetti feed/auction fund raiser scheduled

for the Hydroplane Museum in Kent on October 18. Tickets will be available at Lawrence

at the end of the month.

             from SOA Pit Previews

Denise visited Al today at noon, and he is doing much better. As you may have heard elsewhere, he is now in his own room, 1525, at Legacy Emanuel in Portland. He is sitting in a chair, isn't hooked to any machines, and is feeling closer to normal.

Al asked us to thank his racing family for your help; be it good thoughts or a financial contribution, he appreciates them all.

There is a spaghetti feed/auction fund raiser scheduled for the Hydroplane Museum in Kent on October 18. Tickets will be available at Moses Lake this weekend and at Lawrence at the end of the month. Patrick Gleason and Lisa Peterson have them as well as Denise.
